I try to get the other economy upgrades early and am not bothered at all about advancing quickly. Most often i go 3 wood, then 2 gold, then 1 wood, then 1 gold. I get a total of 4 on wood and 3 on gold next, having built a house aswell. I use my first 5 or 6 vils on food (always 6 if not hunting) and then get some wood. I get hunting dogs unless I think that there will be very little hunting. The build up is similar to almost all my archaic builds on land with the greeks. ![]() Also, by showing them hoplites early on, they will make axemen, which only have 5% pierce armor. Slingers are more effective against hyaspists, but it wont be a problem. They are only 2 population and they wont get owned by spearmen. They take up 3 population and the egypt player is much more likely to have spearmen than axemen. Hippikons can be the buffer, but I would not use them normally. However, they are both low hit point units and using only these would be extremely wood intensive, so a buffer is needed. These units both get an attack bonus with hades aswell. Toxotes totally own axemen and do good against spearmen as well and your peltasts will own slingers. ![]() Your army should consist of both toxotes and peltasts. I will try to go into as much detail about why and how some things should be done, and I will of course include a recorded game. I would not advise that you use it against Set though, because you will run into a horde of monkeys before you get a decent size army. This strategy is effective as well as quite easy to do. This is why a hades fast heroic can be really good against egypt. What you really need to counter the slingers is some pelasts, especially hades ones. You could use hippikons, but they take up 3 pop slots and you will be out-massed by an egypt player. But against egypt, you will often find your toxotes getting killed by slingers before your hoplites can kill the slingers. ![]() The best thing about Hades is obviously his toxotes.
